Memorial

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Mr. Oliver Au, a long-time friend and dedicated volunteer of the Vancouver Point Grey Lions Club. On May 22, 2025, during a charity lunch for seniors hosted by our Club, Oliver experienced a sudden health issue. Surrounded by caring hearts, he left us peacefully later that day.

Oliver was more than a volunteer—he was a pillar of strength, kindness, and quiet generosity. His presence enriched every event, every conversation, and every life he touched. In honour of his enduring contributions and to celebrate the life he so fully lived, we have created this special page. Here, members and friends can come together to share memories, express condolences, and pay tribute to a man who gave so much of himself to the community.

“Grief is the last act of love we have to give to those we loved. Where there is deep grief, there was great love.”

A Family’s Reflection

“Oliver, the one I called Ba, was always there for me. He was not just a devoted father, but one of my closest friends. A few years ago, he said to my sister and myself: I may not say a lot, but that doesn’t mean I’m indifferent to the people around me.”

– From his eldest daughter

A Fellow Volunteer’s Tribute

Vivian Lo, board member of Point Grey Lions Club shared these heartfelt words:

“In the past 20 years, Oliver had been my close working partner, unreserved supporter, and respectable mentor. We had organized a summer camp for youth, bringing together over 60 overseas students from Hong Kong and mainland China. He taught computer and singing classes at local non-profits, and volunteered tirelessly at countless charitable events.

Oliver was not only a beloved instructor to his students, but a sincere friend and a life coach to many. On his last day, he was still singing on stage and joking with his students. His positive energy always lifted our spirits, inspiring us to live with joy and purpose. He will forever remain in our hearts.”

The foundation has lost an ardent supporter of their work. As such, the immediate family would like to invite you to extend your patronage to the foundation in lieu of flowers or condolence money (帛金).

Donations should be made to “Vancouver Point Grey Community Foundation” via Interac E-transfer to Treasurer@VPGCFoundation.ca with “In memory of Oliver Au” as the memo.
